Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Proposed Eastern By-Pass.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

207 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give his views on the Ove-Arup plan for the Eastern By-pass of Dublin City; and his views on whether any circumstances have changed since he took a decision on an earlier plan for this project.

The Government decided in November 1992 not to proceed with the Eastern by-pass in any form and this was confirmed in the Programme for a Partnership Government. That decision stands.

The Dublin Transportation Initiative (DTI) is nearing completion of its evaluation of the three remaining options for port access namely:

—the Port Access Route (Northern Section) from N1 (Belfast Road) at Whitehall to the North Port;

—an east/west tunnel;

—a dedicated truckway along the Royal Canal railway line.
