Ceist:

222 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give his Department's instructions to local authorities on shared ownership housing applications where the deal is cancelled through no fault of the applicant after the £1,000 deposit has been paid; if it is in order for local authorities to make a deduction from the deposit in respect of their costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter, instructing that this practice be discontinued.

Local authorities were notified in October 1991 that the £1,000 deposit is fully refundable if a shared ownership transaction cannot proceed through no fault of the applicant. In other circumstances, authorities may deduct reasonable administrative expenses.
