Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Speech Therapy.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

372 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Health the numbers on the waiting list for speech therapy at Ballyfermot Speech Clinic; the reason a speech therapist has not been appointed; and when a child (details supplied) who is on the list and who was the subject of a previous Parliamentary Question on 6 February 1991 can expect to commence training.

Primary responsibility for the provision of speech therapy services in Ballyfermot rests with the Eastern Health Board. I am informed by the board that there are 123 children awaiting assessment and 40 children awaiting therapy at the moment. A speech therapist was recently appointed to the Ballyfermot health centre. The child in question received speech and language therapy between July 1991 and January 1992. It is expected that he will be seen again shortly.
