Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ceist:

393 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if school transport will be made available to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo.

I am advised by Bus Eireann that the child in question is, in fact, being provided with school transport. He lives 0.2 miles from the pick-up point and is, therefore, considered to have an excellent standard of service, in the context of the general operation of the scheme.

In this regard, home pick-ups are not a feature of the Primary School Transport Scheme, since the cost of providing such a service would be prohibitive. Children who reside up to 1.5 miles from their pick-up point are considered to have a reasonable service, within the terms of the scheme.
