Ceist:

452 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the number of primary teachers who have taken early retirement in each of the years 1984 to 1992; the number of post-primary teachers who have taken early retirement in the same period.

The number of teachers who retired voluntarily and were awarded pensions in each of the calender years 1984-1992 is as follows:

* Includes 374 teachers who retired under a Special Voluntary Redundancy/Early Retirement Scheme.

** Includes 183 teachers who retired under a Special Voluntary Redundancy/Early Retirement Scheme.

Vocational teachers who retire are awarded benefits under the Local Government Superannuation Scheme administered by the Department of the Environment. Details on these retires are not kept by my Department.
