Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sallins (Kildare) School.

Seán Power

Ceist:

54 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education when her Department proposes to commence construction of the much needed extension at Hewetson National School, Clane, County Kildare, in view of the serious over-crowding problem.

Alan M. Dukes

Ceist:

392 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to architectural planning for the provision of a new infants' classroom for Hewetson National School, Clane, County Kildare; if this project will be included in her Department's building programme for 1994; and if she will agree to meet a deputation from the school to discuss the proposed extension in view of the fact that the extension was approved by the then Minister for Education in 1989.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

417 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, during the summer months of the case for the provision of extra facilities at Hewetson School, Sallins, County Kildare; if her attention has been drawn to the anxiety of the school authorities arising from the unusually long process in dealing with the matter; if she can identify the remaining obstacles to progress in the case and proposed resolutions thereto; if she expects such resolution at an early date in view of the pressing needs; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 54, 392 and 417 together.

I am aware of the position at this school. Architectural planning for the new accommodation is at an advanced stage and it is expected that working drawings will be completed in a matter of weeks.

It was not possible to include this project in the 1993 primary school capital programme because of other demands deemed to be of a higher priority which had to take precedence. The project will continue to be considered for inclusion in the programme in the light of available resources and other commitments and priorities.
