Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Murder of Person in County Armagh.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

116 Mr. Gregory asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of the representations, if any, he has made to the British Authorities regarding the murder of a person (details supplied) in County Armagh when leaving Lurgan RUC station on 7 March 1990; and if he will support the deceased family's request that an inquest be held without further delay.

The circumstances surrounding this murder and the question of the timely holding of an inquest have been taken up with the British authorities through the Anglo-Irish Secretariat on several occasions.

In June of last year, a Loyalist paramilitary was convicted for his part in the murder of the person in question. Another individual was convicted of UVF membership and of hijacking the car used in the murder.

I understand the wish of the family of the deceased that an inquest be held without further delay and I am having this matter taken up again through the Secretariat.
