Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Bounty or Reward Scheme.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

133 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if there is a bounty or reward scheme available to the public operated by his Department or the Revenue Commissioners for information which leads to the detection of fraud or discovery of wrong or misleading claims against his or other Departments; and if so, if he will give details of such schemes.

Rewards are paid by the Revenue Commissioners under the Inland Revenue Regulation Act, 1890, to members of the public who provide information leading to the detection of uncustomed or prohibited goods or to the recovery of undeclared taxes.

There is no fixed scale used in the calculation of these rewards as each case is considered on its merits. In deciding on the amount to be paid, factors such as the quality of the information provided, the amount of tax recovered, the value of the uncustomed or prohibited goods and the amount of revenue at risk are taken into account.
