Ceist:189 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education the approximate number of students who are expected to sit the leaving certificate examination in each of the years 1994 to 1997.
Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Statistics.
The projected numbers sitting the Leaving Certificate in 1994 and 1995 are as follows: 1994 - 62,800; 1995 - 66,700. The position in regard to 1996 and 1997 is not yet clear. Schools have been notified that, for pupils commencing their senior cycle in September 1994, it will be possible to opt for a three year senior cycle, a two-year cycle or a combination of both. Schools will shortly be requested to indicate the senior cycle structure which they propose to make available to pupils beginning in September 1994.
