22 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the regulations that govern the grading of beef carcasses in meat factories; the provisions that his Department operate to supervise this grading; if he has satisfied himself with the current operation of the grading system; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Carcase grading (including supervision of grading) at meat factories operates on the basis of an EC classification scheme, which is governed by Council Regulations Nos. 1208SLSL81 and 1186SLSL90 and Commission Regulations Nos. 2930SLSL81, 563SLSL82, 3310SLSL86 and 344SLSL91. Grading is carried out by specially trained officers of my Department and I am satisfied that the current operation of the system is in accordance with the above Regulations.
