Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teagasc Staff Appointments.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

73 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when he will announce the appointment of permanent full time instructors in the Teagasc Offices in Cavan and Monaghan in order to supply much needed assistance and advice to the farmers in these regions.

The deployment of staff with Teagasc is a matter solely for that body, subject to the consent of my Department and the Department of Finance but only in respect of grade and number. In the case of County Monaghan two temporary advisers were employed on three year contracts and their appointments were due to terminate in August and September last. In order to allow Teagasc further time to complete a general review of their overall staffing arrangements sanction was given to extend the contracts up to 31 December 1993.

In relation to County Cavan a specialist adviser recently resigned his post and Teagasc have requested sanction to recruit a replacement. This request is under consideration.
