Written Answers. - Departmental Operations at Meat Plants.

77 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the progress that has been made in regard to the in-depth study of his Department's operations in meat plants, which he told Dáil Éireann on 25 May 1993, was underway arising from an agreement with his Department and the trade union representing agricultural officers; when it is expected that the study will be finished; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will appreciate that this is a complex issue involving some 350 staff at an annual cost of some £7 million and involving staff representations by a number of trade unions. The study of my Department's operations at meat plants is ongoing. However, because of the complexities involved, I am not in a position to indicate when the examination will be concluded.
