Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Ownership of Building.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

78 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will ensure that the Noviatiate, formerly Agriculture House, at Oakpark Demesne, Tralee, County Kerry is kept in public ownership.

As explained in reply to a motion on the adjournment by the Deputy on 1 June, 1993 the building at Oakpark, Tralee, which is the property of Teagasc, is now too big for that organisation's requirements and it, therefore, has put the property on the market.

The disposal of assets surplus to requirements is essential in order to ensure that Teagasc operate in a cost effective manner. In common with all public bodies Teagasc must ensure that the sale of assets realises the best available price. There is no demand for accommodation within my area of responsibility which would enable me to retain the property in question in public ownership.
