Vol. 435 No. 1

Written Answers. - Assault Investigation.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

98 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda received complaints of an assault on a member of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports (details supplied) at a coursing meeting at Cashel, County Tipperary, on 10 October 1993; if so, if this is being investigated; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to give detailed information to the House about individual Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an investigation are so exceptional that such a course is deemed to be appropriate. All I propose to say in this case is that I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the matter is being investigated by them and when the investigation is completed a file on the matter will be prepared and submitted for direction to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The House will appreciate that it would therefore be inappropriate for me to make any further comment on this matter.
