Vol. 435 No. 11

Written Answers. - Relations with Czech Republic.

Nora Owen

Ceist:

61 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Ireland's relations with the new Czech Republic.

Ireland enjoys excellent relations with the Czech Republic and is working to consolidate and deepen this relationship. Following the dissolution of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the Government recognised the new Czech Republic and established diplomatic relations on 1 January, 1993.

Discussions at governmental level with the Czech Republic are an important factor in developing bilateral relations. The Taoiseach met with President Havel on the occasion of the Council of Europe Summit in October. At the UN General Assembly in September, I met the Czech Deputy Foreign Minister, who also visited Ireland last week for further discussions.
