Vol. 436 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Garda Strength.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

100 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí assigned to Clontarf, Raheny, Coolock, Santry and Whitehall Garda Stations; and if her Department or the Garda Commissioner has received representations with regard to Garda strength in these stations to improve patrols in these Divisional areas.

The allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities, who decide this by taking into account the ongoing assessment of the policing needs of the areas in question. The particulars sought in the question are detailed in the following table:

Station

Manpower (31/10/93)

Clontarf

51

Raheny

60

Coolock

91

Santry

75

Whitehall

43

Both my Department and the Garda authorities receive representations on an on-going basis about policing in all areas throughout the country, including these areas. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the policing arrangements for these areas are kept under continuing review to ensure that all appropriate action is taken to deal with problems that arise.
