Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

149 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment the average unit cost to his Department of each local authority house built in each of the years from 1990 to 1992.

Given the wide variations which may exist in relation to such factors as site costs and conditions, different house types and sizes, the varying number of houses in the annual programme, the ongoing nature of that programme, with work on schemes generally spreading over more than one calendar year, it is difficult to give a precise unit cost for houses built in any particular year. However, the average estimated all-in-cost nationally of providing a typical two-storey three bedroomed house for five persons in the period referred to was as follows: 1990, £35,550; 1991, £36,000; 1992, £37,000.
