Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Three Year Senior Cycle Introduction.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

218 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the provision of a three year senior cycle will cause massive problems for smaller second level schools in view of the fact that in three years time they will have difficulties in providing full facilities for the extra numbers they will have to cater for; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

228 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the extra resources that will be provided to schools who are implementing a transition year programme from September 1994.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 218 and 228 together. I am aware of the fact that some post primary schools will need additional accommodation and resources to cater for the increase in enrolment which will arise with the introduction of the optional three year senior cycle.

Where additional accommodation or other resources are required, school authorities should make application to my Department for consideration.
