Ceist:220 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the policy adopted to tender and award the contract for English language training for Bosnian refugees; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department sought applications, by way of an advertisement in the national newspapers on 8 October 1993 from EFL (English as a foreign language) agencies for the provision of an intensive course of 12 weeks EFL instruction to approximately 70 Bosnian refugees and the provision of a less intensive course of 12 weeks for approximately 30 refugees. The closing date for the receipt of applications was 15 October 1993.
Twenty agencies submitted quotations and, after full consideration of all the quotations received, the contract was jointly awarded to two agencies who submitted the most suitable lowest quotations. Classes commenced on 22 November 1993.
