Proinsias De Rossa

Ceist:

78 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance the cost or estimated cost to the Exchequer in a full year of increasing the single persons income tax allowance from £2,175 to £4,000 and the married persons income tax allowance from £4,350 to £8,000.

82 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Finance the cost or estimated cost to the Exchequer in a full year of increasing the single persons income tax allowance from £2,175 to £3,500 and the married persons income tax allowance from £4,350 to £7,000.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 78 and 82 together.

The estimated full year costs to the Exchequer arising from the changes mentioned by the Deputy are as follows:

(ii) Single person's allowance of £4,000	274
(iii) Married person's allowance of £7,000	326
(iv) Married person's allowance of £8,000	446

The figures given at (i) and (ii) include the cost of the normal consequential increases in the widowed person's allowance, the widowed parent allowance and the single parent allowance.

All the figures are provisional and may be revised. They are estimated by reference to the 1993/94 income tax year.
