Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Amnesty Advertising Expenditure.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

95 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Finance the expenditure that was incurred by his Department in advertising the 1993 tax amnesty; and if he will give details of where advertisements were placed and the cost in each case.

Since the announcement of the Tax Amnesty Scheme 1993 in July, a total of £42,500 inclusive of VAT has been incurred on advertising by the Revenue Commissioners in both national and regional advertising.

At a national level, advertisements were placed in all national newspapers and the Irish Farmers Journal highlighting the details of the amnesty scheme, the relevant offices and amnesty helplines within the Revenue Commissioners and the availability of leaflets providing comprehensive information to assist tax-payers and tax practitioners.

At a regional level, advertisements were placed highlighting a nationwide series of seminars for tax practitioners conducted by Revenue to provide technical information on the Tax Amnesty Scheme, 1993.

Most recently advertising was placed at a national and regional level pointing out the forthcoming deadlines for the Incentive Amnesty and the extended weekend and late opening information service provided by the Revenue Commissioners on 27, 28 and 29 November.

The breakdown of advertising is: national, £24,500; regional, £18,000.

These figures relate to the direct cost of formal advertising only. They do not include the costs associated with the production and distribution of leaflets and of mailshots about the amnesty, nor the costs of mounting the nationwide seminar programme for tax practitioners.
