Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

99 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when the County Enterprise Boards will be formally established; if this will need legislation; and if he will define the role of the new boards vis-à-vis Leader, and other agencies.

With a view to getting the county enterprise initiative operational as quickly as possible the County Enterprise Boards were established, as an interim measure, on an informal basis. All county enterprise boards have met and are in the process of drawing up the area plans. I am at present considering questions relating to the formal establishment of the boards, probably as companies limited by guarantee. Legislation in this regard is not foreseen.

The new boards will complement the work of the existing State development agencies, Leader Groups and Area Based Partnership Companies and will provide a county-wide structure capable of co-ordinating the enterprise related activities of local community bodies.
