Financial Resolutions, 1994. - Financial Resolution No. 6: Excise — Vehicle Registration Tax.

I move Financial Resolution No. 6:

(1) THAT as respects vehicle registration tax charged, levied and paid as on and from the 27th day of January, 1994, subsection (3) (inserted by the Finance (No. 2) Act, 1992 (No. 28 of 1992) of section 132 of the Finance Act, 1992 (No. 9 of 1992), be amended—

(a) in paragraph (a), by the substitution of "29.25 per cent." for "31.8 per cent.",

(b) in paragraph (b), by the substitution of "23.2 per cent." for "25.75 per cent.", and

(c) in paragraph (f)—

(i) by the substitution in subparagraphs (i) and (ii) of "£2 per cubic centimetre" for "£2.50 per cubic centimetre", and

(ii) by the substitution in subparagraph (ii) of "£1 per cubic centimetre" for "£1.25 per cubic centimetre".

(2) IT is hereby declared that it is expedient in the public interest that this Resolution shall have statutory effect under the provisions of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act, 1927 (No. 7 of 1927).

This Resolution provides for a reduction in the rates of vehicle registration tax on category A vehicles, that is, in the main, ordinary motor cars and motor cycles. From midnight tonight the rates will be reduced as follows: the rate on category A vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 2,012 cc will be reduced from 31.8 per cent to 29.25 per cent; the rate on other category A vehicles will be reduced from 25.75 per cent to 23.2 per cent; the rate on motorcycles will be reduced from £2.50 per cc to £2 per cc for each cc up to 350 cc and from £1.25 per cc to £1 for each cc in excess of 350 cc.
