Vol. 437 No. 7

Written Answers. - Shared Ownership Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

80 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of shared ownership loans issued in 1993; the average time taken to process such loans from application to close of sale; if upper or lower limits have been imposed in regard to the cost of homes purchased under the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Information on the number of transactions completed under the shared ownership scheme for which loans were advanced by local authorities is contained in my Department's Housing Statistics Bulletins copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

The scheme is administered by local authorities, and, accordingly, information is not available in my Department on the average time taken to process applications. The terms of the scheme do not impose any specific cost limits in relation to houses purchased. However, the administering authority must satisfy themselves that a house is reasonably priced and suitable for the applicant's household.
