Vol. 437 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ewe Quota.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

98 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork was not issued with a ewe premium quota from the national reserve.

The person named applied for reserve quota under category 2 of the terms and conditions for allocation of reserve quota. This category provides for reserve quota to be allocated to flockowners who can demonstrate that the operation of the quota limits will jeopardise the viability of their holdings and who have embarked on (i) a farm improvement plan involving sheep production drawn up by 1 January 1993 or (ii) a finance restructuring plan related to sheep production drawn up in conjunction with Teagasc by 1 January 1993.

The person named was initially notified that he was ineligible for reserve quota because the date the farm improvement plan was drawn up appeared to be after 1 January 1993 due to the poor condition of the copy received with the application for reserve quota. He is now being notified that he has been allocated a reserve quota of four premium rights based on the difference between the quota already allocated to him and the number of eligible ewes he presented under the 1993 ewe premium scheme.
