Vol. 438 No. 7

Written Answers. - Carlow Regional Technical College Temporary Staff.

Phil Hogan

Ceist:

238 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education the reason Carlow Regional Technical College is the only regional technical college in the country which is paying temporary staff their wages in a haphazard and unsatisfactory manner; if she will investigate the situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has formally inquired of Carlow Regional Technical College about the matter raised by the Deputy.

The director has stated that he does not accept that staff, either temporary or otherwise, are paid in a haphazard or unsatisfactory manner.

He has assured my Department that staff payments are made on a regular basis and the payments have continued at the same frequency as under the previous vocational education committee system.
They further say that payments are made at the standard rates approved by my Department and are subject to ongoing audit.
Finally, the director has asked that any member of staff who may perceive an individual difficulty is recommended to contact the college authorities immediately.
