Vol. 439 No. 1

Written Answers. - Residential Property Tax.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

32 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance, in relation to the history of the residential property tax receipts, the breakdown between the percentage of those householders paying it who are within the PAYE sector and those that are in the Schedule D income tax sector; and if he will set out the proportion for each year since the introduction of the tax.

I am advised by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided. However, the Revenue Commissioners have recently sampled 400 residential property tax returns from the 14,000 residential property taxpayers in 1993. Some 73 per cent of this sample were in the PAYE sector with 27 per cent in the Schedule D sector. It must be stressed that these figures are based on a very limited sample.
