Ceist:

146 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the number of students who are in third level education in this academic year and for each year since 1990; if he will give a breakdown of these figures for each year on an institution by institution basis; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The total number of full-time students enrolled in third level education is outlined in the table underneath. The data are in respect of the 1990-91 — 1992-93 academic years inclusive. Total enrolment data in respect of the 1993-94 academic year are not, as yet, available.

The attached tabular statement outlines the total full-time enrolment, where available, in third-level courses in each aided institution for the period 1990-91 — 1993-94 inclusive. The Deputy will note that between 1990-91 and 1992-93 enrolments in Aided Third Level Institutions increased by 18.7 per cent, in line with the increasing demand for third level places generally and the additional provision which my Department has made to meet that demand.
