67 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Justice if the use of force in deporting 28 Kurdish asylum seekers who arrived in Shannon in 1992, has been investigated; and, if so, if she will make details of the investigation available.
The Deputy is referring to an incident involving a number of persons who had disembarked from a flight bound from Cuba to Moscow and who had refused to reboard. As I informed the House on 19 October last, I asked the Garda authorities for a full report following the receipt of correspondence in which certain allegations were made relating to the incident in question. I have received a report and I have asked the Garda for additional clarification on a number of issues which will allow me to complete my detailed consideration of the report. At that stage, which I hope will be in the near future, I propose in the first instance to respond to representations which have been received from a legal adviser acting on behalf of the persons concerned. I will keep the Deputy informed of developments.
