89 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the number of vacancies for Commandant and Lieutenant Colonel that existed in Na Buan-Óglaigh on 1 February 1994; the method whereby these vacancies will be filled; when the promotion boards will be established; when the list will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
On 1 February, 1994 there were four vacancies for Lieutenant-Colonel and one vacancy for Commandant in the Permanent Defence Force.
The procedures for the promotion of officers are prescribed in Defence Force Regulations A. 15 which are available in the Library of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Arrangements for a competition for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1994 are the subject of ongoing discussions with the Representative Association of Commissioned Officers. Discussions with the Association have not yet commenced regarding promotion to Commandant rank in 1994.
