Vol. 440 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Force Recruitment.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

92 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider granting a concession in the age limit of 27 to persons who have undertaken and completed a course in the FCA.

Having regard to the current age profile of non-commissioned personnel and the need for young, fit and active personnel for operational duties, the upper age limit for recruits to the Permanent Defence Force is 27 years. This age limit allows the vast majority of members of An Forsa Cosanta Áitiúil who may wish to apply for enlistment in the Permanent Defence Forces to do so. Favourable consideration is given to members of the FCA in evaluating candidates for enlistment in the Permanent Defence Force.
