Vol. 440 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hepatitis C Patients.

Liz McManus

Ceist:

151 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health if hospital charges will be waived for women with Hepatitis C; and if any treatment is deemed necessary, including hospitalisation.

Persons receiving treatment for prescribed infectious diseases, including all types of viral hepatitis, are exempt from public hospital statutory charges. I have already stated in the House that should any of the people given Anti-D Immunoglobulin need medical treatment for Hepatitis C as a result of receiving this product, whatever treatment is prescribed by the clinicians will be provided by the public hospital services free of charge. The screening programme currently in place is also being provided free of charge.
