Vol. 440 No. 6

Written Answers. - Coolattin Woods (Wicklow) Preservation.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

107 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the present position regarding the future of Coolattin Woods, County Wicklow.

As was announced by the Minister of State with special responsibility for forestry and rural development on 15 March, 1994, Tomnafinnogue Wood is to be taken into public ownership. An agreement subject to contract, reached with the landowners, provides for the purchase of the property by Wicklow County Council. This means that some 2,000 mature trees in the wood, including over 1,800 oak trees, will not now be commercially felled. Instead, the wood will be preserved and managed as an amenity which will be of benefit to the people of Wicklow and further afield.
