Ceist:

170 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if he has any proposals to legalise casinos in Ireland; if he has received any proposals from private investors in this regard; if so, if he will specify them; if his attention has been drawn to the proposal in the Shannon Development area to establish the first casino to attract investors from the United States; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of proposals have been received from private investors for the development of casinos, generally as part of wider leisure and/or conference centre proposals. The proposals are for a number of locations, including the Shannon area.

The various proposals are being examined inter departmentally. The outcome of that examination will be put to Government for decision
