Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Provision of Cycle Track.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

55 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, the Office of Public Works has to provide a cycle-track along the length of the Royal Canal similar to successful European initiatives.

There are no plans at present to provide cycle paths along the Royal Canal.

The Office of Public Works efforts are currently directed principally at restoring navigation. Access to the Liffey is expected to be restored this year. This will allow the canal to be reopened for boating between Dublin and Mullingar. Dredging works are continuing between Mullingar and the River Shannon.
A signposted walking route has been developed along a considerable length of the canal.
