Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cost of Area Aid Maps.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

56 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Ordnance Survey Office has been charging farmers seeking area aid maps £42.00 when the maps are collected at the Phoenix Park Office, but charging £25.00 when posted; and the reason for the difference in price being charged.

Following discussions with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, the Ordnance Survey Office agreed to supply farmers with the maps needed under the CAP reform schemes, at a reduced rate of £25.00 for the first map and £12.50 for the second and subsequent maps.

Maps are still available to farmers at the reduced rates, whether ordered by post or at the Map Sales Office in the Phoenix Park. However, all applications for maps at the reduced rates are dealt with in rota and there is no guarantee that they will be despatched in time to meet the Department of Agriculture deadline for the submission of area aid applications.

Farmers, like other customers, can purchase these large scale maps over the counter at the normal retail price of £42.00.

The Ordnance Survey guaranteed farmers who submitted orders on or before 15 December 1993 that they would receive their maps by the deadline for submission of area aid applications to the Department of Agriculture and in fact all orders received up to 15 February 1994 were processed in time to meet the deadline. In all some 81,000 orders were received and 210,000 maps were despatched.
