Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

72 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will review the circumstances of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 who receives £73.90 separate payment of disability benefit and £20.10 supplementary welfare benefit and has mortgage repayments of £60 per week with arrears arising through her husband's alcoholism; and if he will consider granting her assistance towards the mortgage repayments.

Under the provisions of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme, health boards may pay a weekly supplement towards mortgage interest payments to people whose means are insufficient to meet their needs.

It is understood from the Eastern Health Board that the person in question has not applied for assistance with her mortgage to date. An application form has been issued to her and the board has advised me that her case will be dealt with as a matter of urgency on receipt of the completed form.
