Vol. 441 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before proceeding to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 30 dealing with two topics. I propose to deal with these two topics separately and will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office. I call Deputy Doyle to state the matter of which she has given notice to me.

I respectfully request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to debate the urgent and important matter of the proposal by the German authorities to legislate for the restriction and or banning of Irish beef from the German market by late April 1994.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by the Standing Order and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

There is a time restriction on this issue.

It fulfils all the criteria.

There are many avenues open to Deputies to pursue this matter.

I call Deputy Allen to state the matter of which he has given notice.

I request the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 30 to debate the settlement made by the Minister for Social Welfare prior to the High Court hearing of the cases brought by FLAC on behalf of 1,800 women for social welfare equality payments despite the fact that he consistently told the Dáil that all his Department's liabilities to women in this regard had been discharged.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 30 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

The Minister can mislead the House and get away with it.
