Vol. 441 No. 2

Written Answers. - Defence Force Recruitment.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

32 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Defence the number of persons recruited to the FCA in 1993.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

94 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the total female recruitment to the FCA since the year 1991; the current breakdown of total personnel in the FCA to include both males and females; the proposals, if any, he has to further increase the number of female personnel; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 94 together.

In 1993 a total of 3,440 personnel were enlisted in the FCA.

Women have been eligible to join the FCA since April 1991 and to date a total of 1,544 have been enlisted. At present, there are 15,180 personnel serving in the FCA of whom 1,429 are women.

Since 1993 women are eligible to fill all appointments in the FCA on the same basis as men.
