Vol. 441 No. 2

Written Answers. - Government Contracts.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

100 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Marine the number and names of public relations firms which have obtained Government contracts in the past 15 months; the value of such contracts; the terms of reference; the reason for such contracts; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in reply to a Dáil Question (No. 158) on 8 February 1994, Walsh Public Relations Ltd. was engaged, by my predecessor and the Department during the month of January 1993, to provide communications consultancy services at a cost of £665.

In addition the following amounts have been spent since then with the same firm: (i) £2,990 in order to publicise the work of the Ferry Users Forum which has been established under the auspices of the Department of the Marine to promote awareness of ferry safety issues; (ii) £670.78 to cover publicity-information in respect of the launch of the Marine Institute; (iii) £671.94 to cover an outstanding invoice in respect of work done in the preparation of a report on 1992 marine activities developments.
