Vol. 441 No. 6

Written Answers. - Harassment of GAA Players and Officials.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

40 Mr. Deenihan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he is concerned about the continued reported harassment of GAA players and officials by security forces in Northern Ireland during the course of their involvement in the normal and every day activities of their clubs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the concern caused by reports of harassment by the security forces in Northern Ireland of GAA players and officials going about GAA business. I can assure the Deputy that such reports, when brought to my attention, are taken up with the British authorities through the framework of the Anglo-Irish Agreement, as are a range of related issues of importance including the specific difficulties being faced by Crossmaglen Rangers GAA club, to which I referred in my statement on the Adjournment on 12 April.
