Vol. 441 No. 6

Written Answers. - Aircraft Overflights Complaints.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

87 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of complaints made by members of the public to his Department since the year 1990 regarding British aircraft overflights of our national territory at low level; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total number of complaints about unauthorised overflights recorded through official channels since 1990 is 103.

The Deputy can be assured that I am fully aware of the concern to which such overflights give rise, particularly in Border areas.

All unauthorised overflights of the State are immediately raised with the British authorities through the Anglo-Irish Secretariat in Belfast.

We will continue to impress on the British authorities the need to take the steps necessary to avoid any such occurrence.
