Vol. 442 No. 2

Written Answers. - Enterprise Allowance Suspension.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

44 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the reason for the suspension of the enterprise allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

59 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the reason for the suspension of the enterprise allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 44 and 59 together.

As indicated to the House on 10 March 1994, the enterprise scheme is currently operating at capacity level relative to the budgetary provision available this year.
Deputies will be aware of a number of initiatives in the sphere of enterprise promotion and support such as the county enterprise boards, the extended area partnership arrangements, Leader II etc., and the social welfare back to work scheme which assist people in setting up an enterprise. They can be assured that adequate measures will remain in place to assist and encourage people to start their own businesses.
