Liam Burke

Ceist:

45 Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he has modified any of the planned expenditures under the aegis of his Department as a result of the shortfall in EC funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

54 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he has modified any of the planned expenditures under the aegis of his Department as a result of the shortfall in EC funding; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 54 together.

As a result of the shortfall in EU funding it will be necessary to modify expenditure on the measures proposed in theNational Development Plan, 1994-1999 on the programmes for industry and human resources development. The precise implications of the modifications necessary are currently being worked through in consultation with the various interests involved. This exercise will take some time to complete and the outcome will be reflected in the revised operational programmes which will be agreed with the European Commission in the near future. However, I am satisfied that the effects of the modifications will not be significant and that the original targets set in the plan will be achieved before the end of the period of the plan in 1999.
