Vol. 442 No. 4

Written Answers. - Foreshore Works.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

56 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the general public's concern at the increased sedimentisation and sea bed levels in and around the Bull Island and Dublin Bay area, the need to create tidal flow and scouring at the location of the causeway and to the numerous benefits of breaching the causeway; his views on whether the causeway should be breached; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received no representations or complaints from members of the general public about the subject of this question. Dublin Corporation is primarily responsible for investigating this issue. The Department of the Marine would, if requested, assist with any engineering or other advice. In addition, any works proposed on State owned foreshore would need to be authorised by the Minister for the Marine whose role would be to facilitate such works, if approved, by granting the necessary permissions under the Foreshore Acts. However, I appreciate the Deputy's concerns and I have written to the City Manager passing on those concerns and asking him for his views. I will contact the Deputy again as soon as I have news.
