Vol. 442 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Port and Docks Board Proposals.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

62 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the proposals, if any, that have been submitted by Dublin port and Docks Board and its terminal operators for consideration of funding under the Cohesion and Structural Funds; the costing of the proposals; the likely funds allocation; if the proposals have been prioritised; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Two projects at Dublin Port have been submitted to the European Union for consideration for Cohesion Fund aid. One of these — the provision of a freight Ro/Ro facility at the North Quay extension, at a total estimated cost of £5.5 million, has been approved for Cohesion Fund aid at the rate of 65 per cent of project cost. The European Union decision on the second project, a Lo/Lo terminal enhancement project at an estimated cost of £9 million, is expected during the second quarter of 1994.

Dublin Port and Docks Board have submitted a comprehensive port development programme, at a total cost of £54 million, for consideration for European Union aid under the National Development Plan, 1994-1999. The projects included in the board's submission cover the bulk, unitised and passenger facilities at the common-user and privately operated terminals in the port and also include general infrastructural projects such a channel buoys, breakwaters, fire protection and other safety and environmental projects. The board's submission is being evaluated and prioritised in the Department at present. Pending completion of this evaluation it is not possible to state the level of European Union Structural Fund aid that may be allocated to Dublin Port.
