I propose to take Questions Nos. 75 to 79 inclusive, together.
The original proposal for the Macroom water supply scheme involved the development of a new abstraction source and treatment facility, the laying of an extensive distribution system and the provision of storage reservoirs. The latest estimate of cost for this proposal was £4.9 million.
The revised proposal for the scheme provides for the enlargement and improvement of the existing abstraction and treatment facility, together with improvements to the distribution and storage systems. The estimated cost is £2.3 million, towards which a substantial contribution is to be made by a benefiting local industry; details of this contribution are being finalised between the local authority and the industry. The revised scheme will cater for increased industrial requirements and provide an additional 50,000 gallons per day to the town of Macroom.
My Department has paid £155,000 to Macroom UDC in respect of preliminary expenditure on the scheme, and this amount forms part of the cost estimates mentioned above. Other preliminary expenditures will be examined in the context of the further development of the revised scheme.
