Vol. 442 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fahy (Mayo) National School

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

105 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she has received representations from Fahy national school, Newport, County Mayo, in respect of the development of the playground adjoining the school; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that this playground is currently unsafe for the numbers of children using it and that the proper development of this playground would involve the levelling and draining of the field and also an improvement in the fencing of the area in view of the fact that it adjoins the Newport/Fahy road and can be quite dangerous; if she will consider the provision of funds which might be of assistance to the board of management and parents association in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department received an application on 30 March 1994, from both the board of management and the parents association of Fahy national school in respect of grant-aid for the development of the playground adjoining the school.

This matter has been referred to my Department's technical advisers in the Office of Public Works. When their report is received, it will be considered and a decision conveyed to the school authorities in due course.
