Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - Iran-IRA Contacts.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

85 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will report on inquiries into allegations of secret contacts between Iran and the IRA; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The inquiries initiated by the Government following the publication of the allegations to which the Deputy refers are continuing. It is not possible therefore at this time to anticipate the outcome of these inquiries. However, Deputies can be assured that the Government will continue to make clear that the provision of assistance by any Government to the Provisional IRA, or to any other paramilitary group, is totally unacceptable and would be a matter of the gravest concern.
