Ceist:

73 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he has received the document Strategic Vision for the Irish Music Industry; and the legislative steps, if any, he intends to take to encourage the development of the Irish music industry.

Tógfaidh mé Ceisteanna Uimh. 24 agus 25 agus Ceist Scríofa Uimh. 73 le chéile.

I have received the document in question. TheProgramme for Competitiveness and Work recognised that the Irish music industry is developing as a major internationally traded service and that there are real opportunities for increasing employment in the industry if advantage is taken of the technological, structural and legislative changes now taking place in the world-wide music industry. The Government is committed in the programme to carrying out a detailed examination of the music industry in Ireland to identify the potential for job creation. In accordance with the commitment in the programme, and subject to the necessary resources being made available to my Department for this purpose, I intend to invite the industry to participate in a representative task force which will advise on the approach which this examination should follow, which will facilitate the gathering of relevant information and which will prioritise the decisions and subsequent actions to be taken by both Government and the industry to stimulate expansion leading to job creation.
